Fundraising Headspace Marion branch
Sunday 28th Jan I met Rebecca on Saturday 27/1 at Angus Neill Reserve Seacliff by chance. I was driving down the esplanade and saw the bright green and white Headspace gazebos and something drew me to park and get out to see what was going on. We’ll I’m glad I did as I stayed for 20mins and had an in depth chat with the crew and walked off feeling elated and happy to be able to agree to commit my time to help fundraise and spread the word about this wonderful not for profit organisation. My story well…………..
To say mental health runs in my family would be an understatement. I know a lot of families can say the same. Mine has been through quite a few ordeals over the past 3 decades.
• My uncle Greg died in a horrific car accident when he was 38 and I was just about to turn 21 which impacted and changed the lives of all his family and friends.
• I went through a divorce in my early 30’s.
• My only daughter and only child suffered from anorexia from the ages of 10-11 and a half then a year and a half later was diagnosed with a lifetime condition of type 1 diabetes.
• My Step brother (from same Dad as mine) estranged from our family in his mid twenties as he thought our Dad was dying from late stages of prostrate cancer and didn’t agree with our Dads treatment of radiation therapy and shock treatment. We haven’t seen him to this day and he has three daughters now.
• I have had three major nervous breakdowns of which the most recent in April 2023 it took me three solid months to completely recover with the help of talk therapy and medication. (Antidepressants) Alleluia to them.
• One valuable lesson I have learnt through all this is it’s OK to say you’re enjoy OK even in a corporate workplace.
• My motto in life:
Not every day is a good day, but there’s always something good in every day!
